The one-of-its-kind ‘Live in a Bed’ competition, driven by Hirsch’s and Suncoast, kicked off today at the casino with contestants preparing to be entrapped in a perspex box with a king-sized bed in it. The last man standing, or lying down, in this case, will win R100 000.

Hirsch’s KZN regional manager Amar Nandlal shared his excitement about the event.

“The enthusiasm for the competition has been fantastic, and we can’t wait to see which of our seven worthy participants will outlast the rest to win the money. It’s going to be a true test of endurance, with a twist of fun,” he said.

They are not to lose touch with the bed unless they need to nourish themselves or visit Mother Nature. Security will be tight, 24 hours a day.

The contestants are Rajit Jurakan, Vanessa Venketsamy, Genevieve Owen, Yogan Francis, Sibani Radebe, Nolwazi Norleeh and Liv Juistien.

Yogan Francis said it’s the challenges he is dreading but has his eye on the prize which will enable him to finish his studies. “I will also donate to charity. I’ve prepared myself mentally for this,” he said.

Sibani Radebe said winning will enable him to pay for his traditional wedding. “I want to spoil my fiancée and son,” he said.

Genevieve Owen will use the winnings to fund the release of her own music album. “I’m nervous, but I really need to win so I can release my own album,” she said.

Nolwazi Cele wants to help her mom with the prize money as her sister, who was the breadwinner, fell ill. “Winning will make a huge difference in my family’s lives. It will also help me complete my studies,” said Cele.
