Whether you're a newbie to open-water swimming or a seasoned pro, the Oceans 8 Charity Swim offers the perfect opportunity to make a splash for a cause. Every stroke counts towards supporting 14 incredible charities!
IF you’re interested in supporting worthy charitable organisations in KwaZulu-Natal, there’s still time to sign up for the Oceans 8 Charity Swim, set to take place on June 15 and June 16, starting at the Durban Undersea Club in the Point area of Durban.
The ocean swim was started by five charities: Duzi-uMngeni Conservation Trust (DUCT), the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), Project Rhino, Singakwenza Early Childhood Education and Wildtrust.

According to the official Oceans 8 Charity Swim website, this incredible event aims to raise funds for 14 amazing non-profit organisations with a footprint in KwaZulu-Natal and is South Africa’s first warm-water ocean challenge of its kind – set up entirely for charity. “It was created by a group of non-profit organisations to help provide charities that have a footprint in KwaZulu-Natal with a sustainable source of income,” the website says.
Whether you’re up for a 1, 4, or 8-mile swim, your efforts will make waves of difference in supporting 14 local charities that will be benefiting from this event.
One hundred and fifty swimmers can swim 8 miles and raise funds for one of the four main charities: Duzi-uMngeni Conservation Trust, National Sea Rescue Institute, Project Rhino and Singakwenza.

The funds raised by the 4-mile and 1-mile swimmers will be equally split between the 10 invitational charities: Crow, Adopt-a-River, Caversham Education Institute, Game Rangers’ Association of Africa, International Sailors’ Society of Southern Africa, Kerr House, Liberty NPO, One Planet SA, Umduduzi – Hospice Care for Children and Wildlife ACT.
