On your mind: Elections 2024
Glenwood residents came out in their numbers to register to vote last weekend and shared what they hope to see in the upcoming elections.
THE Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), held its final voter registration weekend on February 3 and 4. The commission set up 23 000 registration centres across the country. Berea Mail spoke to residents about why they wish to vote.
Residents had this to say:
Hayley Pillay
“I want to see change. I registered to vote because I know my voice matters, and it can make a difference.”
Bulelwa Manqola
“I have registered to vote because I want to see corruption as a thing of the past in our country – it is pulling us back as a nation. And I want to see load-shedding phased out – we have suffered enough now.”

Nokwanda Ncama
“The employment statistics in our country are just insane. We want jobs as the youth of this country; we are not given enough opportunities to flourish; we want to see our voices heard and us being made part of the solutions in moving this country forward.”
Anelisa Simani
“I grew up in Glenwood. Today, I am in my 30s, and this is the dirtiest I have ever seen Glenwood. It doesn’t look anything like a suburb should look, so I am registering to vote so I can see some positive change. We want better living conditions and a cleaner, safer neighbourhood.”

Mondli Mtshali
“I want to see a change in the employment rate of the country – the lack of employment is the reason why there’s so much crime and drug abuse in our communities. Something needs to change, and that is providing the youth with employment opportunities. They also need to look at service delivery which is another problem in our country,” said Mondli Mtshali.
