Investigation launched into cop spotted using state vehicle for personal use

The on-duty policeman is seen on a viral video buying grain for personal use with a state vehicle.

THE South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating the use of a state vehicle for personal use by an on-duty police officer.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, the on-duty policeman is seen buying grain for his personal use from a civilian.

The video shows a policeman in uniform collecting grain next to parked heavy trucks and driving away in a police bakkie.

According to SAPS Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a preliminary investigation has revealed that the member is a sergeant attached to the Durban Harbour.

“The SAPS views such action in a serious light and assures members of the public that resources such as state vehicles are there to ensure optimal running and functioning of the service and to service our communities,” said Mathe.
