FESTIVE-SEASON activities are now full-throttle so put on your Santa hat, angel wings or elf ears and take part with gusto.

Friday, December 1

Christmas musical to make you chuckle with glee

Westville Theatre Club is throwing a Christmas Musical extravaganza featuring favourite Christmas hits, such as All I Want for Christmas is You, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Jingle Bells Rock and so much more.

There will also be some funny songs and songs you definitely have not heard before performed together with a live band.

Hilarious skits will be acted out to make you laugh out loud. So, join the cast as they whisk you away to a magical, musical winter wonderland.

Bring your children, grannies, friends, colleagues and neighbours.

The guests can take their own food and drinks. Westville Theatre Club is located alongside the Westville Swimming Pool.

Evening shows are November 30, December 1–2 and December 7–9. Doors open at 18:30, and the show starts at 19:00.

Matinée shows are on December 3, December 9 and 10. Doors open at 14:00, and the show starts at 14:30.

Add your globe to The Tree of Light

Highway Hospice is hosting The Tree of Light at Jameson Park (off Musgrave Road in Morningside) as a special tribute to loved ones lost too soon. The famous tree will be turned on, and 9 000 lights will shine in memory of beautiful lives lived.

Bring your picnic, gather your tribe and come and enjoy the entertainment, food and fun together. The park is open anytime, and the lights go on at 18:30 on Friday, December 1 this year.

Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust Christmas Market

Join the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust for an evening of delicious fresh food, live music by Anthony Stonier and festive shopping, including a plant nursery and book sale and a great selection of handmade gifts and décor. There will be a Woza Moya exhibition and a jungle gym and playground area for the kids.

The market will run on Friday, December 1 from 14:00 to 19:00 and Saturday, December 2 from 08:00 to 14:00.

Support CAST’s Christmas Market

The community is encouraged to support their upcoming fundraiser event – CAST Christmas Market – combined with Home Ground Westville Church’s 60th Anniversary Celebration.

The event will be held on Friday, December 1, from 17:00 to 21:00, and Saturday, December 2, from 08:00 to 14:00. It will be held at 2 Church Place, Westville.

Laugh till your sides hurt

The Big Laugh Off will be showing at Suncoast Casino The Globe on Saturday, December 2, from 20:00 until 22:30.

Showtime Promotions presents a night of non-stop laughter featuring South Africa’s comedic legends. The line-up includes Bash with Tash, Logie Naidoo, Annalakshmi, Muthu Murugan, Annie Botha, Spencer Govender and Sagie Murugan.

It’s going to be a hilarious night out!

Feast your ears on exemplary choir music

This festive season will see the learners from Reddam House Umhlanga wow audiences in two concerts on Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3.

In the first concert, Sunset Proms, the school will showcase all the ensembles that make up the Reddam House Umhlanga music department on December 2.

According to the school’s director of College Cultural Activities and Music, Russell Scott, the much-anticipated concert features all of the school’s orchestras, choirs, marimba and brass groups, and bands. “In what is becoming an annual event, the world-famous Drakensberg Boys’ Choir will be performing alongside our College Ensembles at Reddam House Umhlanga on the evening of December 3 as part of their yearly national Noël Tour.

Both concerts take place at the Muir Auditorium at the school at 21 Preston Drive, Prestondale.

Seating is supper-theatre style, and people are urged to bring their own food and drinks.

I heart Market makes a move to Durban North

The ever-popular I heart Market returns to Durban, finding a new home at Northlands Primary School, 20 Gleneagles Drive, Durban North, in time for its magical festive season markets.

I heart Market is bringing you some special festive-themed markets to help you get those special pressies in time for Christmas Day and to get you into the festive spirit.

The festive season markets will run on Saturday, December 2, and Saturday, December 16.

There is plenty of parking available in the designated school parking area, with security guards in attendance.

“Northlands Primary School is very excited to be partnering with the I heart team as their new venue,” says Caroline Hockly, marketing manager at the school.

These two December markets will offer a broad range of fine festive fare from Christmas decorations to gift ideas and more for the whole family. This is an opportunity to shop away from the usual season rush, and at a leisurely pace, where there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The market takes place from 09:00 to 14:00 in the school hall and surrounding gardens. There is plenty of parking available in the designated school parking, with security guards in attendance.
