This talent comp will have performers singing for joy

CALLING all gospel singers – this could be your time to shine! The Gospel Icon Discovery (GID) talent-search competition is back, and aspiring gospel singers are encouraged to attend the auditions which are taking place from March 26 to April 23.

The eThekwini Municipality’s Communications Unit shared the news in a statement.

Now in its 10th year, GID aims to cultivate and discover emerging gospel talent while creating employment opportunities for local artists.

“Talented youth who enter this competition stand the chance of winning prize money, a recording deal, and an opportunity to be mentored by established artists in the gospel-music industry,” said the City.

The competition is strictly for solo acts, and entrants should be aged between 16 and 35.

“Candidates are urged to bring their ID or birth certificates along when auditioning. Registration is from 07:00 to 09:00,” added the City.

Auditions are scheduled to take place at several locations in and around the City – with an audition in Durban on April 23 at the Stable Theatre.

• Thusong Community Hall, Umgababa – March 26
• Bester Community Hall – April 1
• oThongathi Community Hall – April 2
• Magaba Community Hall, Hammarsdale – April 15
• uMlazi W Hall – April 22
• Stable Theatre – April 23
