Durban school wins silver at water polo tournament

The final score was 5–10, and Durban Preparatory High School was over the moon with this result.

IT was a proud moment for local school Durban Preparatory High School (DPHS) when learners took part in the National Grey Junior Water Polo Tournament recently and returned home with a silver trophy.

“This tournament includes schools from all over South Africa. It is a three-day tournament of five polo games per day,” said the school, adding that their team was made up of younger boys in Grade Three, Six and Seven.

Despite a tough start, the team made it into the semi-finals.

“Their first game was against Rondebosch Preparatory School for boys, and they lost 1–9. But this did not discourage them. They came back stronger, they listened to their coach, dug deep and showed pure grit and determination, resulting in them getting into the semi-final,” said the school.

The semi-final was against South African College School (SACS), and DPHS earned a place in the final against Rondebosch.

“The final score was 5–10, but [DPHS] were over the moon with this result. Rondebosch Preparatory School confirmed that this was the highest number of goals scored against them to date,” concluded the school.
