Man shot dead in botched hijacking

It is alleged that the deceased was shot during a botched hijacking while several accomplices fled the scene. 

A MAN was shot and killed during an alleged hijacking attempt on Jan Smuts Highway in Sherwood at approximately 19:30 on Wednesday, November 16.

Spokesperson for Emer-G-Med paramedics Kyle Van Reenen said they responded to the scene of a shooting incident to find a man in a fatal condition.

“Reports from the scene are that a man, approximately thirty years of age, was found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics,” said Van Reenen.

It is alleged that the deceased was shot during a botched hijacking while several accomplices fled the scene.

“Further information ascertained alleges that the deceased and his accomplices attempted to hijack a man at gunpoint when the victim fired a shot. His accomplices fled in an unknown direction,” said Van Reenen.

He added that the South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation.

SAPS was not available for comment at the time this article was published.
