SAPS seizes drugs worth R800 000 in major drug bust

The Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit executed a tremendous drug bust in the Durban Central Business District after arresting a foreign national in possession of multiple drugs.

YESTERDAY evening, on October 31, police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit acted on information that a foreign national was packaging drugs from a flat on Dr Pixley Ka Seme Street in Durban. The team completed the operation after having seized nearly R1m in illegal substances.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the team proceeded to the identified flat yesterday at 18:00, and a sting operation was successfully executed.

“The operation resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old man who was found in possession of two 1kg packages of crystal meth, 12 large packages of crystal meth (weighing 1 110g each), cocaine powder (weighing 51g), 93 ziplock packets of crystal meth (weighing 247.9g each), 27 ziplock packets of cocaine powder (weighing 16.1g each), 1 616 ecstasy tablets, 100 glass pipes and two 5-litre containers holding an undetermined liquid,” said Gwala.

“The suspect has been detained for contravention of the Drugs and the Drug Trafficking Act as well as for the dealing in and possession of drugs. He is appearing before the Durban Magistrate’s Court this morning,” Gwala concluded.
