Mommy Moments: The nesting phase

Caxton News journalist Candyce Krishna goes on maternity leave this week.

SLOWLY but surely, I’m watching my husband fall in love with another woman, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Before you start to wonder whether my baby has eaten my brain, she is in fact the other woman I’m referring to.

Weighing a little more than 2kgs and nestling safely in my warm and comfy uterus, she truly is a work of art and already the apple of her father’s eye.

As I approach the last two weeks of my pregnancy, before I head off to welcome her into the world via C-section, I’m going to say the most cliche thing – “I can’t believe how time has flown.”

The house is filled with baby items, and we’ve already discussed what will go where.

Yes, it’s the nesting phase as most moms will know, and watching our tiny human take over our entire world is absolutely special.

We get asked the question, “Are you excited?” quite often, and I guess it’s how people either spark a conversation or show concern, but honestly, how can one not be excited?

My last gynae appointment takes place this week, and I start maternity leave. Now, I just hope munchies behaves and waits till 38 weeks to make her appearance in this world, which I hope is kind to her.

I am Candyce Pillay – fun, energetic and always positive. Community journalism has been a part of my life for 18 years – something I always say with pride when I am asked. As a journalist, I am forever the favourer of the underdog. When I am not penning the latest human interest piece, crime or municipal bit, and occasionally a sports update, you can find me in the place I love most – at home with my beautiful family – cooking up a storm, soaking up the sun with a gin and tonic in hand or binge-watching a good series or documentary.
