A LARGE sinkhole on the corner of St Thomas and Vause roads was repaired on Sunday, September 11. This was after a massive water leak saw the road collapse a month ago on August 11.
While Ward 31 councillor Remona McKenzie has welcomed the repairs, there is more work to be done.

“A concern is the turnaround time for repairs to roads and rubble or spoil collection. Roads in my ward are in a terrible state. The inspectors of the Roads Department need to be more proactive in putting reports through for roads to be upgraded,” she said.

“The inspector of the Water and Sanitation Department met with the Roads Department on-site. A work order number was created for the Roads Department to do a permanent reinstatement of the road,” said McKenzie.
The councillor added that she had requested a sweep of the entire ward.
“The sweep will include checking all manholes, all leaks, pipe bursts and maintenance of valves,” said McKenzie.

Frequent water leaks contribute to bad road conditions.
“There are old pipes in the reticulation for most roads in my ward. I have questioned whether there is a plan in place or a project initiated for these ageing pipes to be upgraded. The ‘recapturing of leak references’ for the same road or area is also a huge concern. I have requested that the water issue be taken seriously without excuses,” said McKenzie.
