Local is lekker at Greyville market

This proudly South African market aims to uplift local vendors.

THE Paddock Flea Market takes place at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse this Sunday, September 11.

Market founder Brace Ramnunan said the market aims to recreate the atmosphere of The Stables Lifestyle Market, which was popular in Durban in previous years. Ramnunan, who was the chairperson of the Stables Representative Traders Community (STRC), said the Paddock Flea Market offers vendors a chance to showcase their wares in a similar setting.

“It impacted all of us negatively from a financial point of view when The Stables market closed. We lost income. That was one of the reasons I wanted to establish The Paddock Flea Market – to help get people back on their feet,” said Ramnunan.

He said safety and security are a priority at The Paddock Flea Market.

“It’s a very safe environment – it’s indoors, and there is parking inside the racecourse grounds. There is a safe environment for children, and come rain or shine, the market is available as it’s undercover. The market is also wheelchair friendly – we allow patrons to park at the entrance and come into the market,” he said.

Visitors to the market can expect to find live entertainment and a variety of food trucks and vendors offering artisanal meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as plenty of arts and crafts.
