Durban Fashion Fair 2022 is on the hunt for fresh faces

The Durban Fashion Fair is less than a month away, and event organisers are calling all models to audition to be a part of this year’s fashion extravaganza!

THE upcoming Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) will be hosting an open model-casting on August 31 at the Durban Botanic Gardens Conference Room.

Now in its 11th year, the DFF features the collections of an array of national and emerging designers. The open model-casting seeks to offer a fair and transparent process for models to walk the runway of the fashion extravaganza.

Providing an opportunity for models to break into the industry, several models were selected from across eThekwini late last year and have completed model boot-camp training to prepare them for the DFF and the fashion industry.

Many models, who have trained under the programme previously, have gone on to establish professional careers with top agencies from around the country. They have participated in advertising campaigns for major clothing stores and have walked fashion runways around the country, with some doing television commercial work.

The DFF will be held this year from September 21 until September 23 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.

According to Nondumiso Mthembu from the City’s Business Support, Tourism, Market and Agri-Business Unit, models interested in casting must be registered with a modelling agency and must bring a professional Z-Card when auditioning.

“The models that are selected must ensure that they make themselves available over the fitting and show dates,” said Mthembu.

Mthembu says that women must have a minimum height without heels of 1.76m, with the following measurements:

Bust: 81cm – 83cm
Waist: 24″–27″
Hips: 34″–37″

“Ladies must wear minimal make-up, body-fitting clothing (no jeans) and bring a pair of heels,” she said.

Mthembu says that male models must be no less than 1.85m tall and fit into a size 30-32 pair of trousers with chest measurements between 36″–40″.

“They must wear a form-fitted T-shirt/shirt and closed shoes – no trainers/takkies,” said Mthembu.

The casting will take place at the Durban Botanical Gardens on August 31 in the Conference Room, situated at 9A John Zikhali Road in Musgrave.

“Registration starts at 11:00 with castings starting promptly at 11:30 and ending at 14:00. No latecomers will be accepted,” said Mthembu.
