Denis Hurley Centre remembers founder with special day

The guest lecturer will be Minister Pravin Gordhan who knew Paddy Kearney well.

THE Denis Hurley Centre (DHC) invites the Durban community to join them for a day of celebration and reflection to remember their founder, Paddy Kearney.

Kearney passed away in Durban on 23 November 2018. This year would have marked Kearney’s 80th birthday at the end of August. To commemorate the day, DHC is hosting an event on Saturday, August 27.

The annual Paddy Kearney Memorial Lecture will take place at 14:00, hosted by the Gandhi Development Trust and the Phoenix Settlement Trust, in association with the Durban University of Technology. The guest lecturer is Minister Pravin Gordhan, who knew Kearney well. Gordhan will speak via video link as he is not able to attend in person. To attend the lecture, community members will need to register via this link.

At 16:00, there will be a birthday tea party.

“We hope that many of those who knew and admired Paddy will come to celebrate his life and legacy,” said DHC.

The commemorative celebrations will come to a close at 17:00 in Emmanuel Cathedral with a special Memorial Mass. Durban Chamber Choir will sing a renaissance setting, O Magnum Mysterium, by Victoria.
