Two killed in accident on N3 near Spaghetti Junction

All the occupants of the vehicle were ejected at the accident scene on Sunday evening.

TWO people were killed, while four others injured, in a single-vehicle accident on the N2 northbound before the N3 Spaghetti Junction on Sunday evening.

According to ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the accident occurred at about 23:00.

Jamieson said all the occupants of the vehicle were ejected at the accident scene.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find that a single vehicle had lost control and overturned multiple times, ejecting all its occupants before coming to rest down the embankment. Two women were missing after the accident, and a search was conducted by paramedics for over an hour to try to locate the ladies.

“They were found a few meters away from the wreckage with fatal injuries, and they were both declared deceased on the scene. Four others sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital,” he said.

Jamieson added that the events leading up to the accident are unknown.

It has been a deadly weekend on the N3 after a collision involving several trucks, a tanker and a vehicle on Friday evening, near the Mariannhill Toll Plaza, claimed the life of one person. A section of the N3 had to be closed off after several vehicles caught alight after the accident.
