WIN: Tickets to the Koi Show at the Shongweni Club

This year’s Absolute Asphalt SA National Koi Show is hosted by the South African Koi Keepers Society (SAKKS).

THE overwhelming feeling when visiting Gerard Loumeau’s home is one of deep tranquillity.

It is hard not to be moved by the stunning water features, which surround the entrance to his Umgeni Park home, but also his impressive collection of brightly coloured koi fish.

Loumeau is a member of the South African Koi Keepers Society and has been keeping koi for more than 20 years.

Over the years, his collection has grown to more than 50 varieties of koi fish.

He is hoping to showcase some of his prized koi at this year’s SA National Koi Show in Shongweni.

“One of the best things about being involved in this show is sharing our know-how and rubbing shoulders with other people who have a similar passion. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we haven’t been able to host a koi show for two years. Some of the top koi aficionados will be attending the premier event – showcasing their best show koi.

“The event is really about offering the general public an opportunity to speak and learn from koi dealers, experts and keepers from across the province, who will be able to offer advice and assistance to anyone interested in this fascinating hobby. We really hope Durbanites come out and support us in their numbers. Come and experience the magic of koi,” he said.

Event details: Caxton Local Media is giving away 30 tickets – each ticket admits two adults and two children – to this year’s Absolute Asphalt SA National Koi Show. The event, hosted by the South African Koi Keepers Society (SAKKS), takes place at the Shongweni Club on Saturday, July 30 (08:00 to 17:00) and Sunday, July 31 (09:00 to 15:00). The club is situated on the corner of Cliffdale Road and Kassier Road.
