Saturday, 19 March

Picnic in the Garden

Musician Naresh Veeran is hosting a relaxing Saturday afternoon concert as the sun sets, in his garden on Saturday 19 March at 16:00pm. Bring a picnic basket and blanket and something cold to sip on, to enjoy the smooth saxophone tunes and some fabulous flute playing in the heart of Morningside.

A student of Melvin Peters and Deepak Ram, Naresh holds a Ph.D. and creates the bulk of his music, live. The audience thus experiences his music rather than just listens which offers a unique perspective on live music as a whole.

Mangrove Tour

The next open morning at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve takes place on Saturday, March 19 from 08:00 to 13:00.

The honorary officers will be on hand for guided walks through the mangroves forest. There are also self walks open to the public. For bird enthusiasts, a bird walk starts at 08:15 sharp.

Eco Clean-up

THIS month’s Clean Blue Lagoon event takes place on Saturday, March 19. Eco-warriors are asked to attend the clean-up at the Beachwood Mangroves from 08:00 to 11:00. Black bags will be provided and social distancing will be required. All Covid-19 protocols will be adhered to.

Monday 21 March

Fine Dining Experience

Wrap up the Human Rights Day long weekend in fine style in the company of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra with Natalie Rungan and Njabulo Nzuza, and a sublime Thai fusion meal from Goo’s at Beachwood Country Club on Monday 21 March from 16:00pm.

The Siza Foundation is hosting the event as part of its arts support programme. Perfectly Fine combines an elegant fine dining experience with gracious cuisine by respected Thai chef Goo Imthawin, and a programme of light classics; frothy pop; hits from musicals, and some jazz fusion courtesy of the mighty KZN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of resident conductor, Lykele Temmingh.

Various packages have been created for patrons. The premium package comprises an elegant three-course Thai inspired fusion plated meal and wine to be enjoyed in the restaurant; a second option is a plated meal with wine, served on the huge veranda, and the third is a delicious boxed picnic with wine, served on a complimentary picnic blanket on the lawn.

Vintage Train Rides

It’s officially just about autumn and nearly Easter. That’s at least two great reasons to hop onto the beautiful old vintage passenger train which is doing multiple trips over the next few weeks, departing from Kloof and meandering among the 1000 Hills.

The train departs from Kloof Railway Station and travels on the Old Main Line, meandering along the Valley of 1000 Hills, through one of the oldest operating tunnels in South Africa to Inchanga.

Your ticket will enable you to discover railway artefacts in the museum which is situated in the old station master’s house. Look out for Thomas & Friends in the Modeller’s Shed and other “mini” trains.

The train departs from Stokers Arm, Kloof Railway Station on Sunday 27 March at 08h30 and again at 12h30 Seats are limited & booking sells out fast.
