UKZN warns of fake social media accounts

UKZN warns the general public about fake Facebook accounts that could be used to misguide students.

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has warned prospective students to be wary of fake social media accounts.

This comes after the university discovered fake accounts purporting to be Professor Nana Poku, the university’s vice chancellor.

UKZN’s spokesperson, Normah Zondo, said Professor Poku has no social media accounts.

“Our belief is that the fake accounts that use the picture of the vice chancellor have been created with the intention of misguiding the public, especially new students,” said Zondo.

The university added the fake accounts have since been reported.

“Any information that is not disseminated through official UKZN channels, including official social media accounts, but purporting to be from the VC should therefore be disregarded,” Zondo said.
