Rise in fishing licence applications anticipated during fourth wave

Post office branches across the country have stocked up on the licences.

THE South African Post Office (SAPO) said it is equipped for the influx of fishing permit applications it anticipates as the holiday season approaches.

As fishing was one of the safest activities throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, SAPO predicts the demand for fishing licences will increase, just as it did during previous waves of the virus.

“Applications have always been at its highest at coastal post offices, but many holidaymakers get their fishing licence from their local post office before they leave their hometown. For this reason, all post office branches have stocked up on licences,” said SAPO spokesperson, Johan Kruger.

In December 2020, 89 000 licenses were sold nationally, higher than any other month. Forms can be obtained from the post office.

The applicant’s ID document and residential address are needed when applying.
