Classical music show to wow Durban this weekend

Classical music lovers will enjoy this show as it features masterpieces from the 19th century.

IN a new show, the Friends of Music presents pianist, Andrew Warburton and violinist, Ralitza Macheva at the Durban Jewish Centre on Sunday, November 21 at 3pm.

The pogramme features virtuoso works for violin and piano from the 19th century, including music from Beethoven, Brahm and Fauré.

Warburton, who is one of South Africa’s finest solo pianists, is currently a lecturer in piano and is the director of the Opera School and Choral Academy.

He is also the head of Western Classical Performance Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Music. He graduated with a PhD in piano performance in 2018.

The Bulgarian-born Ralitza Macheva relocated to South Africa in 2000. She is the co-principal second violinist of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, Durban. Her strong devotion to music of the Baroque era resulted in her appointment as the leader of the Durban-based orchestra.

Prelude performers include the young sisters, Mingmei and Gongxuan Zhang, learners at Our Lady of Fatima School in Durban North. They will be joined at this concert by their young brother, Zhehan.
