Ward 27 remains a DA ward as IEC releases election results

The Democratic Alliance (DA) won ward 27 by a landside with 65.15 % of the votes.

COUNCILLOR Ernest Smith has retained Ward 27 with 10 396 votes streaming in for the DA candidate. This as the Independent Electoral Commission released results to the Local Government Elections online. 

Smith won the ward by 65.15 % while the ACC won 8.91% and the ANC 8.62%.  Action SA won 7.16% of the votes followed by the IFP with 2.34%.

Smith became the Ward 27 councillor in 2019. Prior to this, he worked as a staff member of the DA responsible for support services to councillors in eThekwini for many years.

Of the voters making their mark at Greyville Tennis Club, 1 064 (75.04%) voted for the DA, 177 (12.48%) for the ANC and 129 (9.1%) for Action SA. 

At Livingston Primary School voting station, 2 013 (66.83 %) people voted for the DA while 430 (14.28 %) voted for the ANC and 159 (5.28%) voted for Action SA.

Action SA overtook the ANC with 171 votes (8.04%) at Randall Hall voting station. The ANC won 115 votes (5.4%) at the station, although the DA won by a landslide with 1 565 votes (73.58%).

The gap narrowed marginally at Thekwinin College, Centec Campus voting station where the ACC won 514 votes (25.4%) to the DA’s 1 058 (52.27%) votes.
