AN 18-year-old suspect will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s today after he was arrested for two common robbery cases in Morningside recently.
Spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo said the police were responding to a complaint when they arrested the suspect.
It was reported that the victim was approached by two men at the intersection of First Avenue and 2nd Avenue on Thursday, October 20, at approximately 18:30. They demanded money from the victim.

Maphumulo said the victim was assaulted by the suspects while demanding money. One suspect was armed with a stick, while the second one beating him with his fists.
“The suspects took R60 and walked away. The Durban Central police members were patrolling when alerted about the robbery and swiftly responded by looking for the two suspects around the vicinity,” said Maphumulo.
Police were flagged down by the second victim, who also claimed to have been robbed by the two men.

“The second victim, who claimed he was also beaten by the suspects, was robbed of a cell phone,” he said.
The two suspects were spotted and they attempted to flee.
“The Durban Central police managed to arrest one of the suspects. The stolen goods could not be recovered as it was alleged that the second suspect fled with the stolen cellphone and cash. The two suspects allegedly reside on the street,” he said.
He said the suspect was arrested for two common robbery cases and was detained at Durban Central Police station.
