Breast cancer survivors shine in film festival

The film is about a stand-up comedian who is diagnosed with breast cancer.

WITH Breast Cancer Awareness month commemorated in October, the European Film Festival included the fitting Irish film, The Bright Side, into its line-up.

The film is about a stand-up comedian who is diagnosed with breast cancer and the moving piece will be screened online at the festival that runs from October 14 to 24.

In partnership with CANSA, the festival will also host a free online discussion event on October 19.

Director of The Bright Side, Ruth Meehan said, “This film is inspired by a combination of Anne Gildea’s honest and irreverent account of her journey through cancer and my own personal experience of the surprisingly life-enhancing cathartic power of loss and grief. It is dedicated to warrior women everywhere.”

Meehan will feature in a special discussion with Anthea-Lynn Lewis, entitled The Bright Side – surviving the journey.

Lewis is a three-time breast cancer survivor and Global Hero of Hope who works with children and teenagers as a CANSA TLC (Tough Living with Cancer) coordinator.

“I am all about celebrating life, and living each day to the fullest. I am all about spreading hope,” said Lewis.

The discussion will be moderated by South African actress, author, film producer and activist, Rosie Motene.
