DUT soccer team competes at national comp

The highly-anticipated tournament took place in Tshwane University of Technology.

THE Durban University of Technology (DUT) Ladies Soccer team featured for the first time in South Africa’s biggest university football tournament, Varsity Football 2021.

The highly-anticipated tournament took place at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) from September 29 to October 4.

The DUT ladies football squad, that is part of the DUT Sport Administration Department, was among eight teams the competed in the tournament. The teams included the University of Western Cape, University of Limpopo, University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg and North-West University.

DUT’s sports officer, Nondyebo Mgudu said, “Domestically, the team plays in the South African Football Association (SAFA) Sasol League, with the intention of maintaining the status as it is our first season in the Sasol League. We previously competed in the ABSA League. The DUT Ladies Team qualified for Varsity Football through the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Games, an annual tournament held in December. The previous competition was held at University of Johannesburg.”
