Five men arrested for stolen vehicle, unlicensed firearms in Durban CBD

A multi-disciplinary operation was held in Durban Central CBD and five suspects were arrested.

FIVE suspects, aged between 18 and 21, will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as the possession of stolen property.

The KZN SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said a multi-disciplinary operation was held in the Durban Central CBD on September, 20 at 13:00.

“During the operation, police officials came across a vehicle with five male occupants on Pine Street. The vehicle did not have a rear registration plate,” she said.

She said the vehicle was intercepted and a search was conducted.

“Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered two pistols with ammunition, a toy gun and stolen bank cards. The suspects were arrested and transported to Durban Central SAPS for processing,” she said.

Gwala said the investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen during a house robbery.

“The vehicle was impounded for investigation. The suspects will be profiled to check if they are linked to other serious and violent cases committed in Durban and surrounding areas,” she said.
