Berea SAPS urges residents to be crime conscious

Berea SAPS arrested six suspects recently for various crimes.

AFTER a spate of crimes in the area, Berea SAPS has urged the community to be crime conscious. 

Captain Poobalan Naidoo, spokesperson for Berea SAPS, shared safety tips and encouraged the community to be vigilant when walking on the street.

“Never walk around alone and do not talk to strangers. Be on the lookout for strange cars and people. Walk in well-lit busy streets and in a group if possible,” he said.

“Avoid going into a very busy or blocked street where you cannot walk properly as that is where you will find criminals pickpocketing,” he added.

Naidoo also advised residents to take precautions when leaving their homes.

“Always let someone know when you are going and how long you will be away. However, think twice before advertising your absence and plans on social media – remember criminals also have access to Twitter and Facebook,” said Naidoo. 

He said Berea SAPS arrested six suspects recently for various crimes, including unlawful possession of a firearm, theft, malicious damage to property, and contravening the Disaster Management Act.
