Former #Feesmustfall activist faces charges of incitement

Bonginkosi Khanyile is expected to appear in court on Thursday for a formal bail application.

FORMER #Feesmustfall activist, Bonginkosi Khanyile (31) appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, August 23, in connection to the looting and violence that erupted in KwaZulu-Natal in mid-July.

According to reports Khanyile was arrested in Johannesburg by the Hawks on Friday and transported to KwaZulu-Natal. 

Natasha Kara, regional spokesperson for the Directorate Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal, said the matter has been postponed to August 26 for a formal bail application.  

“During the period of July 8 to 11 at or near Warwick Avenue in the District of Durban, the accused unlawfully and intentionally incited, instigated, commanded, or procured persons unknown to the state to commit public violence,” read the charge sheet.
