Drugs worth R87 000 recovered in Durban flat

The arrest was made during an operation conducted by police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit on Tuesday, August, 10.

A SUSPECT was arrested with cocaine and methcathinone worth R87 000 on Gillespie Street in the Durban Central Business District. 

The arrest was made during an operation conducted by police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit on Tuesday, August, 10.

Provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, Nqobile Gwala said police officers were following up on intelligence received.

“The team proceeded to a flat on Gillespie Street and a sting operation was put in place. The 31-year-old suspect was found in possession of 74,2 grams of methcathinone and 171,8 grams of cocaine powder,” said Gwala.

“He was placed under arrest for possession of drugs. The street value of the recovered drugs is estimated at R87 000,” she added.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday, August 11.
