GRADE R teacher from St Henry’s Marist College, Tatum Ridgway, decided to share some positivity online in the midst of the looting, vandalism, and unrest that scourged Durban last week.

Her Facebook group, Rebuild KZN ZA racked up more than 25 000 members since she created the page just one week ago. “I started the group last week Wednesday (July 14) in the midst of chaos that was happening. Within a week it has 28 000 members,” said Ridgway.

“Last week was the most terrifying week. There was so much news about looting and buildings burning, I thought it would be great to show the positives. The aim of the group was to be a light in darkness,  hope in despair and to show that KZN is rebuilding,” she added.

The group has garnered the attention of people abroad, in London, Australia, and New Zealand, said Ridgway.

“The stories on there are incredible. People all over the world have joined the group,” she added.

“Although it was a hard time, KZN doesn’t sit down, we keep going. The group highlights kindness. Something that could have destroyed us has united us,” concluded Ridgway.
