Suspects appear in Durban court for armed robbery

The two men were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and a cellphone stolen in an armed robbery.

TWO suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court this week for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Sgt Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS said it is alleged that on 19 March the Durban Central field unit followed up on information on two suspects who were involved in illegal activities in the CBD.

“The targets were intercepted in Alice Street near a bus depot. Upon conducting a search, one suspect was found in possession of a 9mm unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off and live ammunition and the other was in possession of a cellphone,” she said.

Khomo said further investigation was conducted and the suspects were linked to an armed robbery case that was opened at Durban Central SAPS in December 2020.

“A cellphone which was taken in the armed robbery was the one found in possession of the suspect and was identified by the complainant,” she said.

The two men were detained and charged for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
