Serial Umbilo robber finally caught

The 26-year-old man was found at the Cato Crest informal settlement.

A man, linked to a number of robberies, was nabbed by Cato Manor police officers on Friday.

According to a police statement, the 26-year-old man was found at the Cato Crest informal settlement following an intelligence-driven operation by police.

The man was found in possession of a pistol and rounds of ammunition.

“The suspect was taken to Durban Central police station for further processing. He was charged for being in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition,” said Colonel Thembeka Mbele, South African Police Service provincial spokesperson.

“On further investigation, the suspect was linked to a number of business robberies committed in the Umbilo area. The firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests to determine whether he is linked to other serious cases committed in the province.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s court next week.
