Community urged to take extra precautions this festive season

Police officers in the province will be out in full force to enforce law and order.

THE KwaZulu-Natal South African Police Service has advised the public to be cautious this festive season.

On behalf of provincial SAPS, Col Thembeka Mbele said the police are aware people are looking forward to celebrating during the festive season but it is also a time for the community to look after themselves during this pandemic period.

“Police officers in the province will be out in full force to enforce law and order. All those who are found to be contravening the regulations of the Disaster Management Act will face the full might of the law. Roadblocks, stop and searches are ongoing in the province.  During the operations and as part of enforcing compliance with the Liquor Act, drinking in public will be prohibited. We are appealing to community members to consider staying at home during this festive season,” she said.

Mbele said with the beaches being closed on 16, 25, 26, 31 December and 1,2 and 3 January, no one will be allowed to be at the beaches on these dates. She said on the open days, beaches will be opened from 9am to 6pm and the community should note that a limited number of people will be allowed at beaches.

“The community is reminded to always wear masks, sanitise their hands and observe social distancing. The prevention of the spread of the virus is everyone’s responsibility. Let us stay at home and be safe,” she said.
