WATCH: Venomous spitting cobra found under fridge in Sydenham home

Jason Arnold recorded the entire rescue on his phone which took about five minutes.

A Sydenham family can now sleep better at night after a 1.2 metre Mozambique spitting cobra was removed from under their fridge by local snake rescuer, Jason Arnold.

Arnold, also known as The Snakeman, posted a status on his Facebook page and said he was called by the family on Friday night at 11.30pm after they heard noises coming from the bathroom at their Howell Road home.

“They initially ignored the noises, assuming it was caused by the fairly strong wind at the time. But when the noises continued, they decided to investigate. It’s a good thing they did, as it was caused by a 1.2m (4 foot) Mozambique spitting cobra crawling around their bathroom, knocking over shampoo bottles, deodorant tins etc,” said Arnold.

“They promptly closed the snake in the bathroom and sealed off the gap under the bathroom door with a towel and started phoning people for help.”

Arnold said the cobra managed to bulldoze past the towel, giving it free range of the house.

The family were forced to exit the house and wait outside for Arnold.

When Arnold reached the home, the snake was hiding under the fridge. Arnold recorded the entire rescue on his phone which took about five minutes.
