Former ANC councillor found dead after alleged suicide in Umbilo home

Mluleki Ndobe was found with a gunshot wound on the left side of his chest.

FORMER ANC councillor, Mluleki Ndobe was found dead at his Umbilo home after allegedly shooting himself.

According to KZN police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, an officer from Umbilo SAPS responded to a call on Friday night after he was informed of an apparent suicide on Dan Pienaar Road.

When the officer arrived at the scene he found the deceased’s wife.

Mbele said the wife alleged that the family was all sitting in the living room when Ndobe went to the main bedroom.

“While sitting on the chair in the main bedroom he asked for water. When the deceased’s wife was fetching water she heard a gunshot from the main bedroom,” said Mbele .

Mbele said when the wife went to investigate the gunshot, she found Ndobe seated on the chair with a single gunshot wound on the left side of his chest.

“The victim used his private firearm to shoot himself and the firearm was found lying on the floor next to him,” said Mbele .

A 9mm firearm, one spent cartridge and one live ammunition in the magazine were found at the scene.

No suicide note was found and there was no suspicions that the deceased might commit suicide, said Mbele.

The deceased was later transported to a mortuary.
