Better communication between departments is needed, says councillor

Residents play a crucial role in reporting issues in and around the area which both myself and the departments rely on,

WARD 27 councillor, Ernest Smith, said there needs to be better communication between departments as there are many cases where there is a delay in roads being rehabilitated following road works.

Smith said a few residents had contacted him regarding a patch of road at the intersection of Lilian Ngoyi and Goble Road which had not been filled in following a water burst weeks before. There had also been concerns regarding unfinished work and rehabilitation of the road and pavement at the intersection of Powell and Percy Osborn Roads in Morningside.

This is an ongoing issue, and Smith said he had asked the Roads Department to speed the process up and tar the areas to prevent vehicles from being damaged.

“Usually the departments send information through to each other after work has been completed, but as in many instances across the ward, let alone the metro, this has not happened. These issues have finally been addressed, however rehabilitation work needs to be done faster following completion of roadworks,” he said.

Smith said that if residents see issues in the area, they are encouraged to send an email to the relevant department with a photo and physical address.
