Metro Police arrest Durban car theft syndicate members

In a matter of hours following the arrest, at least nine stolen vehicles were recovered.

DURBAN Metro Police has broken the back of a major car theft syndicate which has been operating along the Durban Beachfront.

This comes after the arrest of syndicate members on Sunday morning. At around 7am, members of the Metro Police Trio Crime Team, travelling in unmarked vehicles, spotted a suspicious VW Polo sedan and began following it.

The Polo made its way onto the beachfront where it stopped next to a Ford Ranger.

Men got out of the vehicle and began prying open the Ford Ranger.

They were unaware that they were being watched by the Metro Police, who swooped on them before they could steal the vehicle.

The men were found in possession of car breaking instruments, computer boxes and a tools used to gain entry to vehicles.
