Chivalrous Westridge learners appreciated

Mabongi Ngcobo, a resident of Pinetown, had a flat car tyre on 5 October, and was approaching a shop in Pinelands to stop and ask for help.

TWO learners from Westridge High School have been commended for their kindness after they helped change a woman’s car tyre on a recent rainy day.

Mabongi Ngcobo, a resident of Pinetown, had a flat car tyre on 5 October, and was approaching a shop in Pinelands to stop and ask for help.

She said the Westridge learners, Alex Hornabrook and Justin Pieterse, went up to her as she was stopping the car.

Without her asking for help, Justin asked Mabongi if she had a jack to lift the car, and proceeded to get down on his knees to change the tyre.

“The floor was wet, and he was in his school uniform, waiting for his lift club to school! What I noticed the most was that the help they offered me and my children was from the heart.”

“They were genuine, with a sense of humour. They helped me as if they were helping people they knew, not people they had only met that day,” she said.

She said Alex told her he was doing mechanical subjects at school and Justin said he was doing woodwork.

“The boys melted my and my children’s hearts, and they challenged my 14-year-old son who doesn’t know how to fix a tyre. He said ‘mom, those boys are cool, they made me want learn how to fix a tyre.’ I’m deeply thankful to these two guys and extend thanks to the school and their parents. I felt like I truly belonged to this community because of Alex and Justin,” she said.

Westridge High School principal, Suren Seetal, said the school was proud of the boys for helping Mabongi and for being such good rolemodels for the school, and thanked her for her kind words of appreciation.
