UMBILO SAPS is warning residents to not open false cases, following an arrest for perjury at the weekend.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula, Umbilo SAPS spokesperson, at around 5am on 11 October, a resident went to the station to report a case of house robbery.

“W/O Sibiya from the Umbilo Task Team interviewed the complainant and conducted further investigation. After viewing a neighbour’s video footage, it was discovered that the complainant had lied,” she said.

The footage showed the man removing household items from his property on Friday, which he allegedly sold.
“The man was arrested for perjury and detained at Umbilo SAPS. A stove has so far been recovered. The investigation will continue and more items will be recovered,” said Makaula.
