Durban SAPS arrest two alleged rapists and burglar

Durban Central SAPS officers' good work was applauded by the District Commissioner and Durban Central management.

PATROLS by Durban Central officers continued to yield good results this week, with the arrest of two suspects for rape and one for business burglary.

Commenting on the cases, Sgt Zanele Khomo from Durban Central said on 7 October at around 9pm, officers were conducting patrols in the Broad Street sector policing area when they noticed two women who were looking for assistance.

“Members approached the women and ascertained that one of them had been raped. Members proceeded to Durban Central with the victim and a case of rape was opened. The victim gave a description of the suspects and members conducted patrols of a possible hotspot,” she said.

She said on 8 October, at about 3.30am, two men were located and arrested in St George’s Street, Durban.

“The men fit the description that was given by the victim. Both suspects will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s court soon,” said Khomo.

In the second case, at around 3am on 8 October, Durban Central officers responded to a housebreaking complaint in Beatrice Street, Durban.

“Upon arrival, a complainant was interviewed and informed the members that the shop roller door had been cut and it was possible that suspects should still be inside the premises. The officers tactically entered the shop and one suspect was arrested and charged for burglary business,” she said.

The man is also due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s court.

“Members’ good work was applauded by the District Commissioner and Durban Central management,” she said.
