Be alert in busy places, warns Umbilo CPF
Crime has picked up in busy areas across Durban, and have become crime hot spots.
THE Umbilo CPF is warning motorists needing to go to Stellawood Motor Licensing Bureau in Umbilo to be vigilant.
Heather Roos, chairperson of the CPF, said crime has picked up in busy areas across Durban, and areas like the motor licensing bureau, that are extremely busy, have become crime hot spots.
She urged motorists to stay alert when in their vehicle while waiting in line to get into the motor licensing bureau.
“Make sure all doors and windows are closed properly and doors locked. Keep a watch on what goes on around you, and who all is in the vicinity. Do not sit talking or texting on your phone, this takes your attention off the road and away from paying attention to your surroundings, which then makes you a prime target to any would-be criminal,” she said.

When parking your vehicle, check your surroundings again. Make sure you close all windows properly, lock and physically check doors before walking away.
“Do not leave anything in your car, no matter how inexpensive it may be. It’s not worth ending up with a broken window over, or broken door locks. A criminal will spot something that draws their attention to the vehicle, and they will then break into your car,” she said.
When returning to your vehicle, be alert to who is around or near your vehicle. Do not hover around outside your car.
“When you leave check you are not being followed. If you feel you are being followed, try to drive to the police station or nearest busy public area. Report this to the police,” she said.
