KZN Dept of Transport employees appear in court for R7mil fraud, corruption charges

Five KZN Department of Transport employees were arrested and charged with fraud.

FIVE officials from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport are expected to appear in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court for fraud and corruption today.

According to Capt Simphiwe Mhlongo from the Hawks, the suspects allegedly issued taxi operating permits without proper documentation.

“It is alleged that they were charging R25 000 per permit and the total value involved is approximately R7 million,” said Mhlongo.

A case of fraud and corruption was reported and the case docket was allocated to Durban Serious Commercial Crime unit for further investigation.

Following an intensive investigation, the five were arrested and charged.
