PinkDrive hosts outreach programmes in Durban

PinkDrive hosted an outreach event at Addington Hospital on Monday.

PINKDRIVE, a mobile breast cancer public benefit organisation, was at Addington Hospital’s Gateway Clinic on Monday, 21 September as part of its first outreach events since lockdown regulations have been eased.

At the event PinkDrive offered mammography for women, cervical cancer screening, breast cancer education, PSA screening for prostate cancer, referrals and follow up care. and the Department of Health offered services such as family planning/contraceptives, immunisations, HAST services (HIV/Aids, sexual transmitted diseases, TB), Covid-19 screening and testing, and other social services.

Deputy Minister of National Department of Social Development, Hendrietta Ipeleng Bogopane-Zulu, shared her message on early detection to the community in attendance.

Speaking about the event, Janice Benecke, KZN administrator for PinkDrive, said she was pleased the organisation had been able to go back into its core basis, which is cancer outreach.

She said another outreach event will be on 10 October at Pick n Pay Hyper.

Mammograms will be R770, pap smears will be R300 and PSA screening will be R75.

“To ensure that cancer patients can access care and adhere to lifesaving treatment and recognising the impact of Covid on cancer screening, we are appealing to the corporate sector to partner with us, to resume critical cancer screening services to flatten the fallout from lockdown,” said Janice.
