Sign up for free maths lessons

#CommunityCare - Kip McGrath Education Centres offer free maths lessons.

KIP McGrath Education Centres are offering free maths lessons to help support children who have been missing school due to lockdown.

Hazel Spires, owner of the Glenwood Centre, said: “We are concerned about the number of children who are struggling with maths concepts because of the disrupted school year. Our local schools have been diligent in offering online lessons and in handing out school work on a regular basis, but the parents are stressed by trying to teach concepts when they themselves are out of touch with the current methods and are, in many cases, unable to assist their children. Our Glenwood Centre has always tried to help the concerned parent, the struggling child and the busy educator.”

The Centre will be following the lead of Jenny Schuss, the owner of the Westville Centre, who had a brainwave, which is now rippling all over the Kip McGrath franchises. This is to offer once off, two hour, free maths lessons during August – to learners from Grade 1 to Grade 12 – focusing on concepts lost during the closure of schools in August.

“We will be adhering to lockdown regulations – learners will get individual attention with a maximum number of five learners in a group at a time. Qualified and experience educators will plan and deliver lessons,” said Hazel.

The lessons will be on a first come, first served basis – booking is essential – and are available to learners at Glenwood schools, who reside within the Glenwood area.

“The aim is to create hope in our community and bring people together – some businesses have already donated paper and other items and they will be acknowledged. The greatest gift you can give your child is education.”
