Fun competition benefits charity

A fun competition was held to raise funds for CANSA Durban TLC.

A RESIDENT at Caister Lodge recently came up with a novel idea to raise funds for CANSA Durban TLC.

Cynthia Jones initiated a competition which entails guessing the identity of the brides and bridegrooms in photographs, all who are now residents at Caister Lodge.

Speaking about her Guess the Bride or Groom fundraiser competition, Cynthia said: “I thought it would give residents something positive to think about during this lockdown. I asked the residents to get out their wedding photographs and hand them to me and I catalogued them with a number before putting them up on the board downstairs in our foyer. Then I put up a list of names of those who had entered so they had a bit of help with their guessing game.”

She said there had only been 22 entries, 20 ladies and two men, because so many people have their photos in storage.

“But I cannot tell you the interest it has caused as people stand and look at the photos and try and match them to the list of names!” said Cynthia.

It was R5 to enter – R2.50 towards the R100 prize and R2.50 towards the CANSA Durban TLC – which provides support to children with cancer and their families.

“Quite a few people doubled up their donations and a couple gave R100 and R50 so we managed to collect quite a bit and gave it to Joan Deare from CANSA TLC,” she said.

The competition ended in June, and Jean Deeley was the winner.

“We had some beautiful people to vote on, it was such fun! I challenge and encourage other residential homes to do the same and benefit charity,” said Cynthia.
