#DominoEffect face masks inspire wearers

The Domino Foundation has launched a Shwe Shwe range of #DominoEffect face masks.

DAY 50 in lockdown arrived on Friday 15 May and with it The Domino Foundation’s launch of the new global fashion accessory with their Shwe Shwe range of #DominoEffect face masks.

This fund-raising initiative went public as an online social campaign (#EachOneReachOne).

A few members of the Foundation’s staff and group of volunteers, who have been on site packing Hope Hampers, modelled their masks in the distinctive traditional South African fabric.

In local custom, Shwe Shwe, originally introduced in the early eighteenth century from Germany, has often signified the wearer’s identity and purpose.

The wearers of Domino’s new take on the material spoke in the on-line campaign of what they love about life and of how the Hope Hamper initiative has given them a greater purpose of late.

Sharing the #DominoEffect, Slater Capell and Angel Mtshali proudly wearing their Shwe Shwe masks.

Said Slater Capell, an Anthem Church intern and Domino volunteer, “I love coffee so I am challenging all baristas to please support this mask campaign”, while Angel Mtshali, Domino staff Kitchen Coordinator, commented, “I love baking and I challenge other bakers to support the campaign.”

Karen Brokensha, who heads up Marketing for Domino, said that the initiative was aimed at getting pledges of support from others who share the same passions as the men and women behind the Shwe Shwe masks.

“We kick-started this initiative with an early-bird special of R50 for two branded cloth face masks. One mask is delivered to the buyer to wear proudly and protectively. The other mask will be donated to a beneficiary on our programmes. That way we double the joy and impact of caring for one another during this Covid-19 pandemic.”

Karen is challenging people who identify with any of the loves, hobbies and values of the ‘Masked Models’ to purchase their masks on-line at www.domino.org.za click Store to share the #DominoEffect of #EachOneReachOne. Those paying via Zapper need to send an email to karen@domino.org.za with their delivery address to match their payment and she will arrange the rest!

Cathy Whittle, Domino’s Disaster Response Unit Team Leader, added, “I want to honour my team of drivers, the bevy of Durban North moms and dads, and the dynamic crew of young volunteers, mainly from Anthem Church Youth and Varsity College, for their incredible capacity and servant hearts during this time. We deeply appreciate each one of you.”
