City establishes fund for Covid-19 support

Donations will be utilised to help boost the provision of essential services to those in dire need.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has set up an account for donations that will be utilised towards curbing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and its after shocks.The city, which is already contributing to the Covid-19 fund, has extended an appeal to businesses, civil socity orgnisations and residents to support the fund.  Donations will be utilised to help boost the provision of essential services to those in dire need.

The Fund will be administered by the city’s Treasury Unit, with the support and input of key business leaders to assist with guidance and advice.  According to a media release from the municipality on Saturday, state restrictions on social and business activities to combat the spread of the virus have resulted in a slowdown in spending, and a loss of income for vulnerable residents and organisations.

The city said it was appealing for generous donations to help alleviate the negative economic and social impacts that the Covid-19 pandemic is causing on livelihoods and the City’s economy. It aslo extended its thanks to those who have made donations of non-perishable food products, hygiene packs and meals.
