Three men bust with firearms in Berea

The suspects will be profiled to ascertain if they can be linked to any cases in the province.

THREE men were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in an operation conducted by Berea police on 26 March.

According to provincial spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele, police were monitoring the area just after midnight when a vehicle with three occupants was stopped at the corner of Lilian Ngoyi (Windermere) and Claribel Roads, Morningside, and a search was conducted.

“Police recovered two pistols with their serial numbers filed off and a total of 24 rounds of ammunition. The three men, aged between 24 and 36, were immediately arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” she said.

Mbele said the suspects will be profiled to ascertain if they can be linked to any cases in the province.

“Their firearms will also be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of crime,” she said.
