Call for submissions for Durban book fair

Short stories, poems, essays, biographies, photographs and artwork with deep captions that speak to the theme of South African freedom will be assessed.

THE Durban Book Fair invites submissions from writers and poets to be considered for a special volume to be launched on 27 April at Mitchell Park.

The first in the series, Twenty-Five Years of Freedom, was launched on the country’s silver jubilee as a free nation. This project is in a “flash mob” format with submissions expected within one month of the call.

Short stories, poems, essays, biographies, photographs and artwork with deep captions that speak to the theme of South African freedom will be assessed by the editorial committee.

Submissions may be in any language and should not exceed 2 000 words. It should be accompanied by a 50-word biography of the author and a signed statement attesting to the originality of the work. The final selection will be entirely at the discretion of the editorial committee.

While the volume will be sold by the publishers on a cost-recovery basis, no royalties will be paid.

The Durban Book Fair is a volunteer initiative now into its third year and is a citizen project to support Durban as a UNESCO City of Literature.
