Berea shooting, policeman left in critical condition

The policeman is said to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

REPORTS surfaced earlier this morning that a policeman had been shot in the Berea area.

According to Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the paramedics responded to a shooting incident just after 10am on Winter Avenue to find the policeman in a critical condition.

The policeman sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics stabilised the policeman before rushing him to hospital.

It is unclear at this stage if the policeman was on duty at the time of the shooting or what the motive behind the shooting is.

Jamieson said the policeman is still in a critical condition.

This follows reports of a similar incident in which a police officer was also shot in New Germany on Thursday evening.

The Berea Mail has reached out to police for comment.
