EDITOR – Thank you for the article on vagrants and beggars in Glenwood and Berea. It is a huge problem for everybody, business and residents. Many are aggressive, particularly to women, and refuse food but demand money.
However, I note with concern that the Chief operations officer of the Durban Chamber of Commerce used an amazing 16 centimetres of column space to ramble on about the problem, peppering his long-winded response with all the politically correct statements – stuff we all know but that which does nothing to actually deal with the issue.
Perhaps Mr Nundkumar could actually spend some time on the streets getting personal experience of this massive problem. This will give him a better understanding of the challenges that are faced which are only dealt with by proper policing, community watch patrols and an active plan of action.
